With so many great spots to choose from-beaches, nightclubs, resorts, whitewater rafting-how can you decide where to go? First, make sure you have plenty of time on your itinerary to accomplish all your travel goals, that way you’ll be able to get from place to place with ample time to spare so you can fully indulge in the adventures that Costa Rica has to offer.

There are at least three places in Costa Rica that past visitors from all over would agree are the hotspots future travelers should visit. These places offer fun, wonder, and an appreciation for all things Costa Rica, Earth, and man alike.

The Arenal Volcano is an active volcano that frequently delights tourists with red hot lava flows and powerful steam vents from deep inside the Earth. Arenal is one of the top ten most active volcanoes in the world, where burning rocks crash down the sides and smoke billows from the open crater. Skilled guides can take you relatively close, but always at a safe distance. Night viewings can be particularly special because of the glowing lava and rocks against the blackness of the night. There are also many things to do surrounding the Arenal area, such as the Los Perdidos Hot Springs where you can soak in the naturally hot water, tour via horseback riding, trek across the famous Arenal Hanging Bridges, mountain bike through the jungle, go whitewater rafting, or explore the Venado Caves, and much more.

The Monteverde Cloud Forest is another must-see attraction. It is here you can hook up to a zip line and slide through the rainforest for two miles. The rush of flying through the treetops is an experience that people flock to enjoy and never forget afterwards. You can experience the rainforest just like a bird, soaring through the vegetation and visiting with other native animals and Costa Rican birds, particularly the Quetzal, the country’s most famous bird. There’s no better way to enjoy a canopy tour.

Travel to the Manuel Antonio National Park for a taste of both beautiful beaches and natural wildlife in the jungles beyond. The three white beaches offer a place to cool down in the blue waters and are all backed by rainforest where you can view an amazing variety of birds, monkeys, flowers, and trees that reach for the skies. The views are incredible, and you can easily find guides ready and willing to take you through the park for a hike in order to get a closer look at all the flora and fauna.
